Nathan HPL #020 2.0 Liter Men's 2-Liter Hydration Race Vest (Flint Grey)

Great Price "Nathan HPL #020 2.0 Liter Men's 2-Liter Hydration Race Vest (Flint Grey)" for $58.39 Today

I waffled between giving this 4 stars and 5 stars, but ended up with 5 because it really is the best hydration pack (for running) out there. I've now used it for several months, putting in 50+ miles/week, and also one 50 mile race.

However, it isn't perfect, so I'll outline the pros and cons as I see them. Some of this is probably personal opinion so use your own judgment:

Pros:
*lightest weight for the carried volume I could find
*easy to clean for those of us that put drink mixes in bladders
*Pretty good bite valve, although I do recognize that some don't like it
*Nice inventive chest clip that holds the drink tube, back panel securing system, adjustable height chest strap, and some other nice touches. These guys at Nathan did not just assemble a bunch of off the shelf crap to make a product; they creatively invented some stuff to solve real world problems, and for that they are way ahead of the pack (e.g. Camelbak)
*Reasonably good assortment of pockets and well placed too.

Cons:
*After about three months of use my bladder has started to leak many here have complained about it. I like to know my stuff is rock solid and I don't have full confidence in it. I'll replace with an MSR bladder, as those are bomb proof.
*Bladder sealing mechanism takes some time to get used to. With practice, you can open and close really quickly, but others can't, which can kill time at an aid station during a race. It's in your best interest to run into the station with the thing off your back and the slide opened, and close it yourself after they fill it.
*The mesh pocket on the left side (as you're wearing it) needs to be taller and with much tighter elastic along the top; if you're trail running stuff falls out. I'm going to add some velcro or something to allow me to use it as a secure pocket.
*There is better vent mesh out there for the back of this thing, although NO companies I've met use the good stuff (we use it for some of our projects). If they were to use the good stuff, you'd get better back ventilation, although it's not really bad per se. It could just be better. Again, no company uses the good stuff.

Summary: Best of the best. Not perfect, but it's the one to buy. Expect to replace the bladder, and don't depend on it for critical runs.

Marathon & Half-Marathon Gear - A. Gift For You - Silicon Valley, CA
Used this for both the Mt Diablo Half-Marathon (cross-country) and Big Sur Full Marathon. Perfect 2.0-liter size for a race with a few aid stations along the way. Didn't notice I was even wearing it while running. Front pockets perfect for GU shots. Was able to fit a Canon Power Shot 4.0 megapixel S400 digital camera in front left pocket during Big Sur Full Marathon; although it occaisionally would 'pop-out'. Forthunately, I tied the camera lanyard to a zipper lanyard, saving the camera during an ejection event. Rear pocket sufficient to hold a wallet and car keys. The closure mechanism for the 2.0-liter hydration bag is peculiar (fold over once, slide a plastic fixture into place) but it worked fine. Likewise the bit-valve shutoff mechanism was difficult to operate (not a turn on/off, rather pull-on/push-off).

Nathan 2.0 pack - Garry Harrington - Colorado Springs
The Nathan HPL #020 2.0-liter hydration pack seems to be perfect size and weight for use in a 100-mile trail race ... I could maybe use one more pocket or storage area on the back or perhaps on the inside of the pack, but seems to have room for everything I will need to carry during a race. The bladder itself has a sliding lock mechanism at the top which is unwieldy and potentially messy during filling in a race especially when hands are cold and tired; would prefer the conventional bladder system with the screw-off cap for refilling. All in all, though, a good piece of gear to possess.

High Peak Endero Waterproofing Tent - 2500mm

Great Price "High Peak Endero Waterproofing Tent - 2500mm" for $99.99 Today

If you are considering buying this tent, I would say go for it BUT REPLACE THE GROMMETS before you use it or you may be sorry. This tent has many excellent features and I am very pleased with the purchase. I knew about the "grommet problem" when I purchased this tent thanks to other reviewers and I am very thankful. The first time I set the tent up, 4 of the grommets broke off! If I had been in the middle of the woods when this happened I would have been in very big trouble. Before I took the tent out in the woods (see pics) I replaced the grommets and sealed all the seams. As I said, there are many good features about this tent:

PROS: It is a strange contradiction but aside from the junk grommets this tent seems to be made out of very high quality material. The zippers are high quality and seem to be well manufactured. They have also included an extra triangle of fabric around where the zippers meet to increase water-resistance. This is an excellent feature. There is also a down flap covering the zippers on the front door which also adds to the water-resistance.

The poles are made of aluminum and seem to be of high quality. As one other reviewer mentioned, the poles are a challenge to thread through the material the first few times you set this tent up, but this gets better over time. I used some waxed paper on the tent poles while threading them through but it didn't do much good. By the fourth time I set the tent up this wasn't really an issue any more. The tent stakes are very lightweight and sturdy also.

Another big pro about this tent is the design itself. In my opinion, this tent is designed better than most backpacking tents costing 3 or 4 times as much. The internal venting is highly customizable which keeps condensation down considerably and gives you a lot of control from the inside of the tent. That is very important to me since I like to camp throughout the year.

Weighing in at around 7 pounds, this tent may be a bit heavier than other backpacking tents but in my opinion, I'll take an extra pound or so for a little extra space and better features. The tent is very comfortable for one person. I am 6 feet tall and had plenty of room. Two backpackers could fit in this tent without killing each other, so long as they didn't have too much gear with them. The compression sack is an interesting design. I'm not sure if I love it or hate yet it but it gets the job done.

The rain fly attaches to the tent by adjustable straps, which is a nice feature. Setup is also pretty simple for one person once you get the hang of it. The support ropes are pretty straight-forward and are well made.

CONS: There are a few, unfortunately. I have already mentioned the grommet issue. The grommets are ¼ inch (not 3/8s!) and are a pretty simple fix. Your local hardware store or sowing store will likely have the grommet kit to fix this under ten dollars. The poles are a little challenging to get through the fabric the first few times you set this tent up. You also have to be careful when you are flexing the poles as the material tightens considerably attaching the poles to the grommets. If you get in a hurry while doing this, I feel you could damage the tent.

TO SUM UP: If you don't mind putting a little work into this tent by fixing the grommets you will have an excellent tent with many good features at a very affordable price. The design of this tent is outstanding for backpacking in my opinion and I would buy the tent again. The first time I used it, the temperature dropped into the twenties and the second night it rained. I was warm and dry and had little to no condensation in the tent. I was very surprised and impressed. I also have a High Peak backpack and have found it to have many features that the others don't while costing 3 or 4 times as much.

Customer Review

It seems I've just received version 2! - Rudi Szalai -
Great tent, specially for 120CAD to my door)
1. Mine is polyester with PU coating instead of the first version's inferior nylon material.
2. The problems with the grommets many people complained about were fixed.
3. This version is not rectangular, it is a bit wider at the back

Remaining issues/interesting things:
It is still a little bit hard to slide in the poles because the coating on the inside of the pole channels sticks to the poles. Not a big issue, more of a minor inconvenience. (It seems it gets better after a few setup)
It comes with 12 stakes while the full stakeout requires 17 stakes. to buy the rest and you will need them only during a really bad storm.
Overall I'm really happy with it. I will use it for snow camping next weekend, if anything bad will come up with it I will let you know.

Amazing deal for the price! - R. WADSWORTH - Idaho Falls, ID
I've used it three times now and am completely satisfied with it. I live in Idaho so between camping, backpacking and white water rafting this is perfect. Functionality=10 Size and wieght=10 the only thing that concerns me is that the stiching around the door seems as if it's a bit thin and may come loose. (Hopefully an easy fix) and it's a little tricky getting the poles out of there fabric tracks (They stick to the fabric) Other than that I'm very pleased with the purchase. 4 season tent for under 100.00 bones, cant go wrong in retrospect to the competition.
